The BSc (Hons) in Tourism and Events Management programme combines the theory and practice of business tourism with a customer-service orientation to produce graduates who can perform in a variety of tourism and events industry positions. Graduates can progress rapidly to management level positions within this sector. This multidisciplinary programme prepares students for careers at the management level in tourism and events, and in the broader service industries, either locally or internationally. Students learn to be customer-focused, analytical, and independent, and at the same time develop communication and leadership skills. They also gain a global perspective to meet the growing challenges facing the dynamic tourism and events industry.

This programme offers a minor or free electives track.

Program structure:

The BSc (Hons) in Tourism and Events Management programme follows the norm of 124 or 121 academic credits for graduation. Students must complete: (a) 30 credits of General University Requirements (GUR), which include Healthy Lifestyle, Language & Communication Requirements (LCR), Cluster Area Requirements (CAR), and Common Mandatory subjects; and (b) 76 credits required by a major study, which includes 16 common subjects (46 credits) taken by hotel management and tourism and events management students, six specialist subjects (18 credits), two career track option subjects (6 credits), and an honours thesis (6 credits) or two capstone projects (6 credits).

Furthermore, students need to take 18 credits of minor study or 15 credits of free electives offered by SHTM or other departments/schools within the University. The components for a minor in a discipline can consist of either elective subjects or both elective and compulsory subjects.

In addition to the 124 or 121-credit bearing academic units, this programme requires seven mandatory training credits, i.e., six training credits of Work-Integrated Education (WIE) and one training credit of Professional Development.
