The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) is a three-year engineering degree, offered in New Zealand as a study pathway into engineering, construction and related manufacturing industries. BEngTech students undergo a practice-based skills formation process, and the programme teaches students to understand and apply engineering science knowledge. Students will also develop the capability to analyse and implement solutions to real-life, practical situations.

BEngTech graduates meet an industry need for people who can actively apply engineering knowledge in industry, and integrate that knowledge into high level practical situations. Students achieving this qualification may also move into a higher level of study. Students can choose to major in Civil or Mechanical engineering.

The Learning Outcomes of this programme are benchmarked against the Graduate Profile and Graduate Attributes of the exemplar Sydney Accord provisions of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA).

Career Options

Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology are internationally employable. They will be employed for their ability to assess, select and apply generic and specific engineering technology in their practice area, and for their ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Graduates may also find work in research and development, technical support and application, education and communication, sales, quality and general management, or roles in local authorities and government.

New Zealand University Entrance; or Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study. Evidence of literacy and numeracy will be required and have English?language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and?assessed in English. Any applicants whose first language is not English may?be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score?of 6.0 or greater (with no score below 5.5 in speaking, reading, writing and?listening) or equivalent. TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE), TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60?(with a writing score of 20), PToE(Academic) score of 50. Cambridge English Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill OET at Grade C in all sub-tests. NZCEL3 Expiring Current - Level 4 (Academic), City and Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 66, Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS.
